YouTube moves solidly into the future by supporting 4K content
It’s funny — we remember the day that YouTube began supporting plain ole HD like it was yesterday, and we’re guessing today will hang in our memory banks for quite awhile, too. Over at the VidCon 2010 conference, YouTube officially announced support for videos shot in 4K (a reference resolution of 4096 x 3072), which means that the famed online clip portal now supports “resolutions from 360p to 4,096p” (their words, not ours). Granted, only a handful of humans even have access to a 4K camcorder, and 4K projectors aren’t exactly simple to find (or afford), but we couldn’t be happier to see YT staying way ahead of the curve here. If you’re up for putting a severe strain on your broadband connection (and just pretend that your monitor can actually support a legit 4K feed), feel free to hit that first source link and attempt to watch any of those videos at their “Original” resolution. Godspeed.

PlayStation Blu-ray 3D update arrives in September; 3D photo, PlayTV and YouTube support to follow
Just in case you weren’t really sure how deep into this 3DTV thing Sony is, senior director of Sony Europe Mick Hocking announced the PS3′s update for Blu-ray 3D movie playback will be released in September — but it won’t stop there. Expect future firmware upgrades that give the PS3 3D rendering for photos (.mpo files), any broadcasts it can pick up on PlayTV, and even YouTube videos. Not running out the door to buy one yet? CVG reports the rest of the presentation was devoted to extolling the virtues of 3D to hardcore gamers in racing games, God of War, or LittleBigPlanet. Demos so far haven’t completely convinced us the PS3 is capable of rendering games in high enough resolution to satisfy, but if Fat Princess 2 features a good 3D implementation, someone hide our credit cards, please.

Samsung Intercept is up for pre-order, might launch this weekend
Sure, the Epic 4G seems awesome — but that doesn’t mean Sprint can (or should) abandon the midrange Android market, right? On that note, the previously-leaked Samsung Intercept is now up for pre-order on Sprint’s so-called EVP site for business discount customers where it’s selling for $99.99 on a two-year contract after rebate (though we imagine regular customers coming into corporate retail stores might have to pay more than that). Feature-wise, you’re looking at a 3.2 megapixel cam with some sort of video capture, slide-out QWERTY keyboard (this is likely a Moment successor, after all), and your choice of Gray Steel or Satin Pink finishes. Word is that we might see an official launch this weekend — just don’t mistake it for an Epic when you see it in the store, alright?
[Thanks, anonymous tipster]
Update: Best Buy accidentally sold one for $100 already, so it’s possible this is going to be the asking price for everyone — and considering the specs, it really shouldn’t go for a penny more. Thanks, A Mathur!

HP Mini 110 and 210 netbooks get Atom N455 and N475 accoutrement
Looking for a Mini that has a little more to offer in the processor department? HP has thoughtfully upgraded the Mini 110 and Mini 210 to offer your choice of Intel’s N455 or N475 Atom processors. Those chips bring DDR3 memory compatibility to the table, which both netbooks now offer by default, while the optional N475 brings either one up to 1.88GHz — though you’ll have to pay an extra $25 as proof of your commitment to handle that sort of blazing performance. The default 110 with 1GB of memory starts at $280 right now, while a base 210 will set you back $330.

Nexus One gets yet another Android 2.2 Froyo update, FRF91
Another day, another Froyo build. Now that Android 2.2 build FRF85 — i.e. the big one that got pushed over-the-air to every Nexus One this week — is out on the prowl, Google’s taken it upon itself to release yet another update, FRF91. We’ve heard from a few tipsters that it’s also going out OTA, but our devices have yet to be notified — all the same, a direct link for the file has been found, so it’s legit. Word on the street is it’s just a security update, but we’ve to install it ourselves. Go on, live a little, download’s just below.
