FLO TV Personal Television now on sale for $250, should be in cereal boxes soon
Look, we fully understand that someone, somewhere put a lot of time and effort into designing a $250 handheld that does nothing but watch pixelated mobile TV for a lofty per-month price, but seriously, there has to be better uses of one’s time. The 3.5-inch FLO TV Personal Television is on sale today at Amazon, Best Buy and RadioShack, though we suspect that the $249.99 up front price will probably keep most potential buyers at bay. Six months of service are included, but afterwards you’ll be paying at least $8.99 per month (and a rate that low requires a three-year contract) to keep the signals flowing. If we’re being honest, this thing is still more useful than Celio’s REDFLY, but that sure ain’t sayin’ much.

AMD spells out the future: heterogeneous computing, Bulldozer and Bobcats galore

Believe it or not, it’s just about time for AMD to start thinking about its future. We know — you’re still doing your best to wrap that noodle around Congos and Thubans, but now it’s time to wonder how exactly Leo, Llano and Zambezi (to name a few) can fit into your already hectic schedule. At an Analyst Day event this week, the chipmaker removed the wraps on its goals for 2010 and 2011, and while it’s still focusing intently on Fusion (better described as heterogeneous computing, where “workloads are divided between the CPU and GPU”), it’s the forthcoming platforms that really have us worked up. For starters, AMD is looking into Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) configurations, which “represent the combined capabilities of [practically any] two separate processors.” We’re also told that the firm may actually introduce its Bulldozer (architecture for mainstream machines) and Bobcat (architecture for low-power, ultrathin PCs) platforms more hastily than similar ones have been rolled out in the past, which demonstrates an effort to really target the consumer market where Intel currently reigns. Frankly, we’re jazzed about the possibilities, so hit the links below for a deep dive into what just might be powering your next (or next-next) PC.

Moxi Fall update comes with a lower price and a new 3 tuner model

Although Moxi hasn’t really taken a piece of our heart, it has kept its promise of updates with the third one due just before the holiday season. The most notable news today from Moxi’s new owner Arris though is a new three tuner HD DVR, which we believe is the first to break the two tuner barrier (that isn’t PC based). The new model is only available bundled with either one, or two Moxi Mates for $799 or $999. You can still buy the dual tuner version by itself which now retails for $499 instead of $799 — don’t forget, Moxi doesn’t charge service fees — and the Moxi Mate itself is now $299 instead of $399. The bad news it that the no interest payment options are off the table. The best news for existing Moxi owners is that the Fall update brings Live TV streaming to the Moxi Mate as well as new recording defaults, but we continue to wait for the ability to customize the Recorded TV list. All in all, Moxi has made much progress since we did our review, but our biggest gripe goes unaddressed, but then again we really didn’t expect Moxi to redesign the entire UI just because we didn’t like it.

Best Buy stocking Nokia’s Booklet 3G on November 15th
We knew good and well that Nokia’s Booklet 3G was coming to Best Buy sometime “during the holidays,” and now we’ve got something a bit more precise to share. Starting now, Reward Zone members can waltz into their local store and place a pre-order, while public availability is pegged for November 15th (though we already know that a select few have ‘em in stock). As we’d heard, the 2.76-pound, Atom-powered netbook will be sold for $299.99 with a 2-year AT&T data contract or $599.99 straight-up. Oh, and if you’re looking to get your order in early, we’d recommend printing out that image above just so you don’t baffle anyone with your otherworldly request.

MOTO releases AMP MID, the OLED Android 2.0 handheld you didn’t even know existed

Remember those BASF commercials, the: “We make a lot of the products you buy better” ones? That’s kind of the story at MOTO Development Group. We’ve seen the company working on e-ink internals, also having a hand in the creation of the Zune 2.0 and the Livescribe Pulse. MOTO’s going it alone for its latest product, though, a MID reference design called the Android Media Platform (AMP) that runs Android 2.0 and is available now to developers. Yes, the DROID isn’t the only 2.0 player releasing today. AMP will ultimately be available in three sizes: 10-, 5-, and 3.5-inches; the mid-sized model is the one shipping now. That touchscreen can be OLED or LCD, oomph is provided by a Texas Instruments OMAP3430 CPU, accelerometers and GPS are integrated as is 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, and optional 3G wireless, all powered by a 3,000mAh battery. There’s no word on price, but we’re guessing that’s somewhat negotiable depending on your intended application and, naturally, the volume, volume, volume of your order.

New York attorney general files antitrust lawsuit against Intel
No matter how it tries, Intel just can’t shake those pesky antitrust monkeys off its back: the attorney general of New York today filed a federal antitrust lawsuit against the chipmaker, saying it unfairly prevented AMD from competing under state and federal law. That’s pretty much what the EU just fined Intel $1.45b for in May and exactly what AMD itself is suing Intel for in Delaware, so we’re guessing things are a little busy for Chipzilla’s lawyers right now — and it’s just going to get worse, as the smart money says this is all just a precursor to the Federal Trade Commission dropping the hammer sometime soon. Hey, maybe this would be a good time to for Intel to distract everyone with some USB 3.0 chipsets?

Motorola DROID’s built-in apps don’t have multitouch support, third-party stuff is another story

Turns out that the DROID does support multitouch after all — it’s just not as baked as the MILESTONE’s, and it’s certainly not the kind you’ll see out of the box. The DROID’s European cousin features multitouch right in the phone’s core software load (most notably pinch-and-zoom in the browser, which we’ve seen demoed on video) whereas the DROID itself still features multitouch capability in APIs but doesn’t expose it through any built-in app. Translation: the apps you use every day — Google Maps and the browser, chiefly — get left out in the cold for some reason that neither Google nor Motorola (nor Verizon) have thus far been willing to adequately justify. Where you can experience the magic of pinch-and-zoom is in third-party apps written to take advantage of Android 2.0′s new APIs (Phandroid demos it on a fresh version of Picsay, for instance), but at the end of the day, that’s a consolation prize — we still want a spin-free explanation of why this was all turned off for the base apps. Follow the break for video of Picsay’s support for the good stuff in action.

Atom-powered Cowon W2 leaked, could be crowding in on imaginary tablet territory
If there’s one thing we like more than a flesh and blood slate tablet PC, it’s one with zero launch specifics or imagery, and hopefully a dearth of specs. Cowon’s delivering the former in spades, with the leak of the Atom-powered W2 MID on a Bluetooth.org certification page. Of course, calling it an internet tablet might be reading in a bit much, but it seems a good fit for Cowon’s sensibilities and background up against that Atom processor under the hood. We suppose we’ll just have to wait around to learn more, but this could be the start of a beautiful rumoring relationship.
