Nintendo handheld packs 76 old games behind one tiny screen
Ben Heck forum member Brian has built us a sweet little Nintendo-on-a-chip handheld that puts a Super Joy III KIRF TV game, a 2.5-inch display, a controller, and 4 AA batteries under the same roof. This bad boy not only allows you to play 76 games on the go (though, sadly, not at the same time), but it looks great doing it as well. Hit up that video after the read link and see for yourself.

Nintendo: we’re not making a phone, we swear
Despite a statement back in April from prez Satoru Iwata that the company would make a phone if it could avoid monthly subscription costs, it looks like Nintendo will not be getting into the cell biz any time soon. Reggie Fils-Aime, president and CFO of Nintendo of America just put the kibosh on all that with a statement to the New York Times, saying, “Telephony is not in our wheelhouse. It’s not something I anticipate us getting into.” So, you’re telling us that telephony is not in your wheelhouse? Hmm… okay. Thanks for clearing that up! The company is however, considering offering devices with always-on wireless connectivity — which would be way cooler the DSi’s current, WiFi hotspot capabilities.

Palm Pre tasks, memos, browser on display, automatic backup confirmed
Just in time for your weekend perusal, Palm Goon (which we half suspect might be a viral site from Palm itself) has uploaded three tours and a FAQ chock-full of new Pre / webOS screens and details, chief among them being confirmation that the Pre does daily automatic backup. We’ve also got some pretty thorough glimpses of the web browser, Tasks, and Memo applications. Visually, it’s quite a beaut — a very elegant and classy UI that rivals anything we’ve seen from a certain Cupertino-based company. Of course, functionality remains to be seen, but if Palm and Sprint deliver half as good of a game as they talk, looks like we’re in for a real treat.
Update: Looks like the site’s experiencing intermittent server errors. Hang tight, we’ll keep you updated.

Mattel’s Mindflex coming October 1st for $99.99
It’s not often that a Mattel toy targets the 18 – 128 demographic, but we’ll be frank — the Mindflex has us all sorts of intrigued. Originally introduced at this year’s CES, said game is a brain-powered fun-fest that relies on intense mental activity to control the height of a ball suspended in a column of air. Early on, we heard that it would land sometime during this year for $80, but it seems as if only one of those factoids will prove true. Indeed, Amazon has it listed to ship on October 1st, which gives proactive parents plenty of time to stock up for the holidays. Unfortunately, the price seems to have inched up by a Jackson, as it’s currently up for pre-order at $99.99. Rest assured, however, that said price is far less than what you’ll pay on eBay if you’re empty-handed come December 20th.

Sharp’s MIDtastic RD-PM10 electronic dictionary
Sure, it’s no Zaurus, but Sharp’s new RD-PM10 certainly is a looker. It packs a 4.3-inch WQVGA screen, QWERTY keyboard and 8GB of storage into a pretty delightful form factor, and while it’s only designed for light e-dictionary and media playback duties, with Windows CE 5.0 as the backbone, we could imagine it doing a whole lot more with a bit of extra oomph under the hood. There’s a microSD slot for expansion, pretty great codec support, and a 360,000 KRW (about $288 US) list price.

LG X120 netbook review
On paper, LG’s X120 netbook is just another entrant in the Atom-filled sea of sameness — and, in many respects, it is. But it also gets a lot of little things right that too many manufacturers still invariably get wrong and, while it’s not entirely without its faults, it certainly merits some serious consideration alongside all the usual suspects already on your shopping list. The fact that it also doesn’t look too shabby doesn’t exactly hurt things either. Read on for our full review.

ACE robot asks for directions, purpose in life
The Tweenbots project already demonstrated that at least some folks are willing to help a lost robot find its way, but this new ACE bot developed by researchers at the Technical University of Munich has now ramped things up in a fairly big way, with it actually asking passers-by for directions and developing a map as it moves through the city. Apparently, the robot uses a series of cameras to detect people nearby, and it then asks them to simply point towards the destination indicated on its screen, which it is able to recognize, although it does also asks them to confirm the direction on the screen just to be safe. In initial tests, that appears to have been relatively successful, with ACE (or Autonomous City Explorer) able to reach its destination 1.5 kilometers away in five hours after relying on directions from 38 people. But don’t take our word for it. Head on past the break to check out its people skills for yourself.

Albatron storms back with 10.2-inch ultrathin netbook
Nice timing, Albatron. With the whole world feeling that the time is right to enter the quaint and mysterious realm of “thin and light” netbooks, this just proves that you’re totally vibing with money-hungry suits the world over. Truth be told, there’s not much we know about the admittedly striking laptop above. It’s got a 10.2-inch panel, weighs around 2.2 pounds and packs at least an audio input and output. We’re promised that more images and even a video are on the horizon, so hold tight, vaquero.
