Kenwood’s Prodino gets good marks for storage options, not so much for price

Kenwood’s Prodino gets good marks for storage options, not so much for price

The name of this portable digital audio system is partly derived from the Italian word for “great,” and we’re hoping it’s an accurate descriptor, because at a likely price of ¥45,000 ($462) plus another ¥12,600 ($129) for an iPod docking station, this thing isn’t as affordable (or stylish, for that matter) as previous products we’ve looked at. The Prodino (less sexily known as the CORE-A55) tries to earn the price tag by supporting not only USB but up to 32GB of storage on SD or microSD — perfect for that slotMusic collection you wasted your money on. With speaker output at only 10W each, though, we’re thinking a little shopping will find you a more attractive alternative.

Wireless Stereo Speaker Docking Station Laughs at Physics!
What I love is wireless ghetto blasters. What I love is when they look really weird and awesome. And when they are waterproof, have rechargable batteries, and possibly even make use of solar power, wind power, of hydroelectricity; that is the most excellent. Oh also: iPod iPod iPod. Sony simplifies PSP-3000 lineup, only offering one SKU

Sony simplifies PSP-3000 lineup, only offering one SKU

Hope all you would-be PSP buyers out there are into that PSP-3000 Ratchet & Clank Entertainment Pack that just went on sale a couple weeks ago, because it’s going to be the only bundle available from here on out. That’s the word straight from Sony, which says that “ongoing discussions” with retailers have led it to kill the previously-announced $169 4GB Memory PSP-3000 bundle in favor of offering a single SKU — although the company helpfully points out that you can still score a 4B PSP Memory Stick PRO Duo for an additional $45. Yeah, thanks for the tip, guys. The current Mystic Silver bundle will be joined by a Piano Black version sometime in December, so you’re not totally limited option-wise, but we’re not exactly pumped about throwing extra money at a game we don’t necessarily want — we’d happily drop the extra cash on a non-interlaced screen, however.

Guitar Hero World Tour now rocking store shelves everywhere

Guitar Hero World Tour now rocking store shelves everywhere

This day has been a long time coming, but Activision’s next iteration of the Guitar Hero cash cow franchise is officially available. Truth be told, the game (and requisite instruments) was sitting on a-many of store shelves yesterday, but there’s nothing like a formal announcement to really push you to take a few hours from work and rock out this evening. There’s a variety of bundles out there ranging from the game alone ($49.99 to $59.99), the game and a guitar ($89.99 to $99.99) and the full-on band kit ($179.99 to $189.99), so make sure you choose wisely when heading out to drop some dough.

Garmin nuvi 785T reviewed

Garmin nuvi 785T reviewed

Garmin launched its updated 7×5 series of nuvi navigators back in August, but the high-end MSN Direct-equipped 785T is just hitting stores, and GPS Magazine says it’s a solid improvement over previous nuvis — but if you’re not willing to pay the $50 / year for the MSN service, you’re probably not going to miss it. The 785T drew high marks for its fast frame rate, nice 3D lane guidance / upcoming turn features, and semi-realistic building displays, but the MSN Direct traffic implementation was less accurate than the free traffic service built into lesser T-series nuvis, and download speeds for the service weren’t particularly swift. We’re not all that sold on the connected GPS concept yet, so we’re inclined to take the reviewer’s advice and pick up the otherwise-identical non-connected 765T, but click on for the full exhaustive review to decide for yourself.

How-to video shows 3G implant into Aigo P8860 MID

How-to video shows 3G implant into Aigo P8860 MID

Aigo’s P8860 MID was already a potent, handsome piece of machinery in its factory form, but adding in 3G is like adding melted chocolate to a glazed hot doughnut from Krispy Kreme — it’s just better, even though it’s tough to accomplish and potentially harmful to your health. Far-reaching metaphors aside, our pals over at jkkmobile have put together an all-telling 18 minute video that explains how to add 3G HSDPA to this here MID. For seasoned DIYers, the process of opening it up, soldering a mini PCI-e connector / SIM card slot and tossing in a 3G card / antenna won’t seem that difficult. For everyone else, we’d recommend watching thrice to make sure your confidence level is at the appropriate position before delving in. Vid’s after the break, per usual.

How would you change Sony’s PSP-3000?

How would you change Sony’s PSP-3000?

We first caught wind of a slightly revamped PSP months ago, and the long-awaited handheld — complete with a new, fancier and in some cases more dreadful display — finally hit US shelves this month. For those that picked one of these up and have spent some quality time digging into the latest firmware, how are you liking things? Particularly for those that upgraded, are you pleased with the new build? Are you being plagued with those mysterious screen problems features? Could you stand to see a few more things tweaked for the PSP-4000? We suspect there will be quite a few mixed messages flying in this one, so let’s get those comments rolling.
